Consider a Less Formal Wedding
If you are the bride and were like most little girls, you dreamed of glitz and glamour, diamonds and gold everywhere, a cathedral train as long as the church aisle and Mr. Universe standing at the altar. If you are one of the lucky ones, like Star Jones or Donald Trump, this all seems very easy to attain. If you are like the rest of us, keep reading.
Before you begin to plan anything, you must remember that the less formal your wedding, the less expensive it will be. A formal wedding tends to have a larger guest list, extravagant decor and full dinners as opposed to hor d’oeuvres, men wear tuxes instead of simple suits and the bride wears a more detailed glamorous gown.
Well, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see what I mean. For example, a tux costs more than a nice simple suit and a buffet set up costs less than having each guest served while seated.
You can mix some styles if you like, a formal wedding ceremony with a less formal reception. Just be careful not to contrast them too much, the guests may be in for a little shock. But if you want a formal ceremony with a semi-formal reception, go for it. Receptions can average about 50% of your wedding budget, meaning a huge money-saver if you can cut down the reception costs.
